Temple Bar Gallery + Studios have announced artist Julia Dubsky as the 2017 Recent Graduate Residency recipient. TBG+S is delighted to welcome Julia and looks forward to supporting her to develop her practice within the creative community of professional artists working in the studios.
The TBG+S Recent Graduate Residency is a professional development opportunity aimed at recent graduate artists in Ireland to assist in focussing their studio practices at this crucial point in their careers. Now in its fourth year, the residency offers a 12 month studio at TBG+S with added professional development supports. The residency, beginning in spring 2017, provides a large free studio for one year, in addition to a €1,000 stipend, €500 international travel bursary, a variety of institutional supports including mentoring and a programme of visiting curators’ visits.
Julia was awarded the residency by a selection panel of five people, following an open submission process which took place in January 2017. Working mainly in a wide, mostly muted pallet range on shallow stretchers, Julia’s work appears both figurative and abstract, channelling grapplings within a confined, flat surface, similar to an argument made in an essay.
The selection panel consisted of Mary Cremin (Programme Curator, TBG+S), Clíodhna Shaffrey (Director, TBG+S), Anne Kelly (Finance Manager, TBG+S), Kevin Cosgrove (TBG+S Studio Artist) and Barbara Knezevic (Artist).
