13 and 14 May, 10am to 4pm
Encaustic painting (coming from the Greek word Enkaustikos which means to burn in) is an ancient, immediate and tactile painting process using molten pigmented beeswax. This weekend workshop will cover the multiple techniques of encaustic painting, plus collage/mixed media and encaustic monotypes, allowing time to develop your individual relationship with the paint. An experimentational exploration of the qualities of encaustic painting will be encouraged (texture, transparency/opacity, incising and impressing, building up/breaking down layers).
The workshops will also cover equipment and tools, paints/paint recipes, supports and health and safety. Suitable for beginners and those with previous experience of encaustic. Class sizes are small to allow for plenty of one to one. All materials are included in the cost.
