Tapestry Weaving and Apron Making Workshops at Creative Mourne
13 and 14 May
Come take part in this weekend craft experience in the inspiring setting of the Mournes at Tory Bush Cottages.
On Saturday 13th May learn the heritage craft of Tapestry weaving under the expert guidance of weaver Nicola Gates. You will create your own unique contemporary wall hanging to be hung at home or to give as a meaningful handcrafted present. Using a simple wooden frame loom, you will experiment with weaving, knotting and wrapping techniques, choosing from a variety of yarns and natural fibres enabling yourself to explore texture, colour and composition. Nicola runs her own beautiful weaving label, Olla Nua, whereby she hand weaves cloth in wool yarns on a huge hand and foot loom in her studio in Belfast to produce stunning handcrafted pouches, scarves and home decor.
On Sunday 14th May come learn how to make your own cross back apron with top linen tailor Maria Cardenas: an on trend item for home and for the workplace/studio. Maria is a third generation tailor originally from Columbia now living in Mourne, Co Down, home of the Irish linen Industry. Maria’s work has been seen on Fashion week runways from Dublin to Milan.
