‘…the lives we live’1 Grangegorman Public Art invites artists and curators to apply for one of three art commission opportunities associated with three distinct building projects currently in development at Grangegorman.

The stakeholders for these buildings, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Technological University Dublin (formerly DIT), are seeking tangible art that holds a lasting presence in these venues once they are completed. It is hoped that these three new art works or interventions will significantly contribute to an enrichment of the social environment and attract interaction between people and place.

The three art commissions are entirely different in nature, purpose, design and end user requirements. They are the Central Quad and West Quad for TU Dublin and the Residential Care Neighbourhood for the HSE.

This is a One-Stage-Only Open Competition enabling artists/curators to engage with the various architects and end users in the development of proposals. Once appointed, Artists will agree an outline contract with the Grangegorman Development Agency and then lead in developing ideas in collaboration with the client, end users and Design Team. Artists/curators will be expected to work within the time-frame related to the build and to share some aspect of the undertaken project at the Grangegorman International Public Art Conference in October 2020. Budget: The total overall art budget is €240K. It is envisaged that this will be shared between the three builds and that no single commission will be less than €60K – €80K. The Public Art Working Group will recommend an all-in budget allocation to each artist or curator.

Budget management is the responsibility of the artist and is inclusive of artist/curator’s fees, expenses, time, administration, insurance, design, expertise, materials, site preparation, production, transport, installation and taxes.

Applications comprise 4 items:

1. Fully Completed Application Form with clear identification of choice of art.
2. Short up-to-date CV (1 page).
3. One file comprising 3-5 examples with documentation of relevant prior work.
4. Statement of Interest (max. 1000 words) regarding choice of commission under the following headings:
(a) Your choice of commission in relation to the end user, and how your art/practice could be relevant to the context
(b) How you would approach this commission including a potential location/s
(c) A schedule for developing a proposal.

There is one Selection Panel which is independent and will view all applications, comprising:

There will be a Q&A session with presentations from the Design Teams for each of the three builds at Grangegorman on 19th June. This will be recorded and the presentations will be available on their website
