Trans Live Arts Salon Residency Part of Live Collision Festival, Dublin

Deadline: Friday 7 April, midnight

Are you interested in live performance, and/or trans activism, consciousness-raising queer art, the mobilisation of politic, carving a central space for trans identity, engaging with trans people across the community, and/or writing back against the cisgender narrative of being trans in Ireland? If so, the TRANS LIVE ART SALON Residency might be for you.

After an extremely positive first iteration of the residency in 2016 we are delighted to continue to grow the TRANS LIVE ART SALON and residency as part of LIVE COLLISION INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2017: Part 1 where we will present a festival residency for artists in all media, arts workers and other interested parties of all generations from gender minorities (e.g. transgender, gender fluid, non-binary, genderqueer, agender, non-cis intersex). It will take place during the festival from 19 – 23 April 2017.

Participants will attend all of the work presented as part of the festival, meet the festival team, meet festival artists and take-part in dialogues on areas of interest to the Salon. This will help participants to critically engage with the role Live Art and risk-based practice has to play in art which centres the lived experiences of trans and gender non-conforming people.

As trans narratives come increasingly to the fore, what is frequently missing from mainstream discourse are the voices of trans people themselves. We know that this is not due to a dearth of trans artists, but due to limited opportunities, discrimination, and barriers for our community which are often not considered.

This residency will take place over one weekend but participants are encouraged to become part of the continuing collective of artists who’ve taken part, and to contribute to the TRANS LIVE ART SALON in the future, by engaging in art, advocacy, and potential further iterations of the residency.

COST: The residency will provide a subsidised festival pass which includes tickets to all the of the festival performances and events, with additional talks and workshops only available to the residency participants. The total cost for each participant will be €40.00. If this is outside of what you can afford, you may wish to apply for our bursary.
