Upcoming VAI Events | Moving Artwork Post Brexit (3 March) + Digital Identity – Communicating Your Practice Online (4 March)

We hope you can join us for two events we’ll be hosting for artists in early March. As always, our webinar events are open to everyone to attend, with some events free for VAI members. Our two events next week will be focusing on how artists and organisations are adapting to changes: a panel discussion on the challenges the wake of Brexit and a webinar exploring the possibility of connecting with audiences online.

Thursday 3 March: Visual Artists Café: Having an Exhibition or Moving Artwork Post Brexit

Many artists and institutions are experiencing difficulties moving work between Ireland and Great Britain. This is impacting artists and institutions both North and South. What is clear is that the process of moving works has become “unclear” and fraught with dangers if the right level of paperwork and bureaucracy is not observed. It will particularly impact on how institutions interact with artists who do not have a commercial gallery to represent them, or that rarity, a studio manager who is experienced in moving work between different countries.

We have invited speakers from various organisations to join us for a discussion so that we can hear their experience and glean some advice on potential solutions.

Speakers include;

  • Graeme Stevenson (Arts Council of Northern Ireland)
  • Deirdre Robb (Belfast Exposed)
  • Peter Richards (Golden Thread Gallery)
  • Mary Cremin (Void Derry)
  • Liam Davis (WPD Shipping)
  • Noel Kelly (VAI)

Format: Webinar (Online via zoom)
Tickets: Free for VAI members / €10 General Admission
Time: 3pm (1.5hr event)

Friday 4 March: The Changing Face of Exhibitions: Digital Identity – Communicating Your Practice Online
With Conall Cary

The internet is making it easier for artists to reach new audiences both on and off line. Artists are promoting themselves, consciously or not, as a brand. People are engaging with and buying from makers, artists, and designers online. It’s easy to present you and your work to these audiences through effective communications.

What are the latest techniques artists, galleries and studios are using to exhibit and present work and themselves; digitally and online? What should your online portfolio look like? What should you consider before showcasing your work online?

This webinar covers how you as a creative can communicate your work and market your practice online. In the webinar you will be introduced to the effective tools and methodology for online marketing communications.

This event is in partnership with Cork County Council. Subsequent to this webinar a supplementary set of eight 20 minute 1-on-1 clinic sessions will then begin for up to 8 Cork County based Artists (1pm – 5pm) on the day with Conall Cary.

Format: Webinar (Online via zoom)
Tickets: Free for Cork County based artists / €5 for VAI members / €10 General Admission
Time: 11am (1.5 hr webinar)
Booking: here
