Get Together 2025 | Panel Three: Our Place in the Digital & Natural Worlds
Lecture Theatre, 3pm – 4:15pm
This panel explores interconnections between art, nature, technology, politics, and society. With a focus on the practices of artist working in sound, 3D modelling, CGI, and Virtual Reality, the conversation will foreground themes of machine learning and digital infrastructure.
[Lead]: RACHY MCEWAN is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher based in London, who challenges traditional approaches to human perception through her work. By bridging the natural, artificial, and non-human worlds, she collaborates across disciplines such as engineering, arboriculture, and science to reshape our relationships with the land and more-than-human entities. Her research and techno-sensual artistic practices foster new cognition and machine-learning dialogues. She introduces innovative concepts like the sensorial ecology of intelligence, the machine microbiome, machine ecosystems, and biological machines.
MELLA SHAW is an artist using clay to make thought-provoking objects and site-specific installations centred around reoccurring themes of balance, tipping-points, fragility and loss. Her approach has roots in activism and publicly engaged environmental work, with an intention to bring lesser-known subjects to new audiences and enact change. Shaw is Ceramic Tutor at the Royal College of Art and visiting lecturer at Central St Martin’s. Shaw was awarded the Henry Rothschild Ceramic Bursary Prize 2021 and won the Award Prize at the British Ceramics Biennial 2023.

JENNIFER MEHIGAN is an artist previously based in Singapore and Belfast, who now lives in the Slieve Felim Mountains in County Limerick. Using paint, inkjet, neural networks, her garden, and her phone, Mehigan’s prints and paintings explore the awkwardness of making images as they are overproduced and harvested. Her research focuses largely on systems and ‘defaults’ from computers to domestic and public environments. Through these frameworks, she investigates themes of submission, withholding, oversharing, and the right to remain illegible or unknown, borrowing from GDPR legislation.

ROBIN PRICE is an artist-inventor, trans-disciplinary physicist, musician and cat enthusiast. He holds an MPhys in Theoretical Physics from the University of Wales, Swansea, and a PhD in Composition and Creative Practice from Queen’s University, Belfast. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘FREE RADICALS’ at PS2, Belfast, ‘Escape Sequence’ at CCA Derry~Londonderry, ‘Lambent Ambient’ at R-Space, Lisburn, and ‘Air of the Anthropocene’ at University of Atypical, Belfast. His work is held in ACNI’s public collection and has been featured in Source Magazine, New Scientist, The Guardian, and Nature Communications Earth & Environment.
