Get Together 2025 | Panel Two: Reactions To Climate Emergency
Lecture Theatre, 11:45am – 1pm
This panel focuses on creative and critical responses to ecological challenges. It highlights the work of artists and researchers whose practices variously relate to environmental and social justice, urban and rural ecologies, and the circular economy.
[Lead]: DARREN CULLEN is a satirical artist, writer, and campaigner from Leeds based in south east London, where he ran the Museum of Neoliberalism until it was evicted to make way for luxury flats. Cullen is best known for projects like Mini Daily Mail (satirical hand-drawn newspaper), Action Man: Battlefield Casualties (toys that protest the recruitment policies of the armed forces), Pocket Money Loans (a payday loan shop for kids), and Hell Bus – a ‘pre-apocalyptic marketing suite’ satirising the oil industry’s attempts to deny and delay action on global warming.

KATE V ROBERTSON is a Glasgow-based visual artist and Co-Founder of Sculpture Placement Group, Circular Arts Network, and Arts Resource Management Scotland – organisations dealing with second life, sustainability, and sharing. Sculpture Placement Group have recently been added to Creative Scotland’s multiyear funded organisation portfolio. Robertson’s art and research is preoccupied with reuse and changing the way art is made, shown and commissioned. Recently, the artist has been working in cast bronze and aluminium while developing a zero-waste practice using almost entirely recycled materials, offcuts and leftovers.

LENNON TAYLOR (Est. 2021) is the collaborative practice of Marilyn Lennon and Sean Taylor, two social art practitioners and educators with considerable international and national experience. The artists were Joint Programme Leaders of Ireland’s first master’s programme in social art practice (MA SPACE 2010-20) at Limerick School of Art and Design. Their collaborative art practice is situated within urban and rural ecologies, where creative outcomes include co-created artefacts, social actions, performances, and sites of exchange.

RÓISÍN FOLEY is an artist, curator, writer and permaculturalist who lives in West Cork. For over ten years, her work has been situated in the fields of landscape and ecology. Róisín graduated from CCAD in 2014 with a BA in Fine Art and later studied permaculture and sustainable horticulture. She was previously director of Doswell Gallery, is a co-director of BioFest West Cork, and is a member of The Glitter Heap Collective. Róisín will begin her MA in Art and Environment in September through TU Dublin.
SOPHIE VON MALTZAN is a socially engaged environmental artist whose work over two decades has bridged social and ecological practice. She collaborates with communities, councils, and institutions to foster creative, place-based responses to biodiversity loss, climate resilience, and public well-being. Her projects empower people to work collectively to improve their environment. With a proven track record in initiating and delivering community-led initiatives, von Maltzan has worked with a wide range of stakeholders, from schools and museums to resident groups and public agencies.
