VAI Lifelong Learning | Next Week’s Events

We start the new month with a much talked about issue – Finding a Creative Space/Studio.

Finding and keeping a creative space/studio is a challenge facing visual artists across the length and breadth of Ireland. This event will seek to equip visual artists (or collectives) with guidance on the key things to consider and enquire about in your search for a creative space or studio.

During the session, webinar leader David Cook discusses some of the issues with Gavin Murphy – Curator/Director of Pallas Projects/Studios. The webinar is free for visual artists based in the South Dublin County Council area (VAI member rate €5).

Following on from this webinar, South Dublin County Council based visual artists can avail of 1 of 8 free twenty minute 1-2-1 clinics with David Cook.

David Cook is currently Chief Executive of Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and founder / Director of Cook Creative. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and previously chief executive of Wasps Artists’ Studios.

As well as being a Chartered Surveyor, David is a social entrepreneur and business manager specialising in culture-led regeneration – particularly devising and delivering cultural capital projects.

David has also been instrumental in the development of the Bothy Project which provides creative residences in bespoke small-scale, off-grid creative residency spaces in rural Scotland to explore creativity, landscape and living simply and gives some informal support to Sculpture Placement Group which specialises in sustainability for the visual arts.
