VAI Workshop | Preparing Photos of Your Art: Websites, Proposals, Print (09 Nov.)

Whether you are editing photos for print or the web, this course will show you efficient and effective ways of getting the most out of photos of your art.

Tim Durham will teach you how to apply post-production techniques, colour correction and photo retouching to digital images of your art to do justice to your work and represent it accurately.

Digital images are the first point of contact people have with your work when you are applying for exhibitions, grants, talks or updating your website.

In this workshop you will learn methodical ways of using Photoshop or other editing software to make colour corrections to an image, adjust resolution, use filters, layers and channels to prepare images for use in print and the web.

The session will demonstrate when to convert and when to assign profiles; if and when you should create cmyk profiles; and resizing images. You will learn how to prepare digital image files for a range of uses such as: online (website, email, online submissions), presentations (digital projection) and for printing (catalogues, books and prints).

You will also learn how to embed Metadata to images of your work. Metadata can help protect creative works by providing all the necessary information about the artist and copyright.

Tim will offer screen calibration to participants with laptops. Proper calibration will ensure that your colours and black levels are true, and that your monitor is producing the best results for editing and viewing images.

What are the 5 things you will get out of the course?
• Understanding the toolset available in photo editing software
• Editing and enhancing existing imagery
• Working with layers
• File formatting and resolution
• File storage/cataloguing and metadata

You need no previous experience of photo editing software to attend this course. Participants should have some basic familiarity with creating, saving and finding files on their pc or Apple computer.

This workshop is an opportunity to build on the skills developed in “Learn How To Photograph Your Art”.

Please Note: If you have a laptop please bring it along to the workshop. This session will be delivered through a presentation and demonstration of the processes to the group as a whole. As time is limited, 1-to-1 tuition will not be possible. However there will be plenty of opportunity for questions.
