Visual Artists’ Cafe: A Beginners Guide to Collecting

event27th June, 11am – 5pm.
R-Space Gallery, Lisburn

Visual Artists Ireland present an information day for budding art collectors. We have talks from R-Space Gallery curator Robert Martin, private art collector Ian Bickerstaff and Belfast Print Workshop Declan Byrne and Jonathan Magee.

We then will have ten artists give five minute presentations about their work as part of Visual Artists Ireland ‘Show and Tell – Affordable Artwork‘. All the artists will have works that can be purchased at prices starting at £250 or lower. In the afternoon we will be screening an inspirational documentary about two New York art collectors that, on a shoestring budget, built one of the most important collections of minimalist art in the world. If you are interested in participating, email your selected images to rob@visualartists-ni.org . Please register for the event at the link below before emailing your images. The deadline for submissions is 5.30pm, Friday 20th June 2014.

Screening – Herb & Dorothy:
He was a postal clerk. She was a librarian. With their modest means, the couple managed to build one of the most important contemporary art collections in history. Meet Herb and Dorothy Vogel, whose shared passion and discipline have defied stereotypes and redefined what it means to be an art collector.
