Weave Workshop with Lay of the Land at Fumbally Stables

This workshop is a practical introduction to frame loom weaving. Hazel and Kari from Lay of the Land will teach the basic techniques of weaving on a frame loom. Hazel studied textile design at NCAD, specialising in woven textiles. She has designed fabric’s specific to the aviation industry. She experiments with natural and found materials through the medium of weave. Kari Cahill graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from NCAD. Her practice is focused towards curation, sculptural installations, and 2D work depicting the landscapes surrounding her.

Each student will be given a loom and guided through the creative process by first exploring ideas of colour, texture, and composition followed by a step-by-step breakdown of warping the frame, basic weave techniques and finishing. The workshop will involve experimenting with a mixture of natural, industrial and found materials through the weaving process.

All materials provided and each student will take home their very own woven wall hanging, frame loom and comprehensive notes. Light refreshments will also be provided.
