Advocacy & Advice Officer (Full-Time, Office-Based – Dublin)

Visual Artists Ireland (VAI) is looking for an experienced, compassionate, and proactive individual to join our team as Advocacy & Advice Officer.

About the Role
Reporting to the Office Manager and working closely with our CEO, this pivotal role supports the research and delivery of our Advocacy and Advice services. You’ll be a direct line of support for visual artists across Ireland, helping them navigate complex professional challenges and empowering them to have their voices heard.

Your Mission

  • Provide independent, skilled advocacy and practical advice to visual artists based on VAI’s knowledge-base, experience and policies.

  • Empower artists to represent their views—or speak on their behalf when needed.

  • Assist in resolving professional challenges and promote artists’ rights.

  • Represent the concerns of artists in public consultations and decision-making processes.

  • Contribute to research and consultancy around Public Art Commissioning and Delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advocacy via face-to-face, phone, and online consultations.

  • Lead both individual and group advocacy projects.

  • Manage and develop consultancy work aligned with VAI’s research and strategic goals.

  • Collaborate with contractors and ensure targets and financial reporting are met.

  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships with artists and stakeholders.

  • Develop support systems, monitor service impact, and gather user feedback.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High-level computer literacy

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organisational skills

  • Calm, focused, and able to prioritise under pressure

  • Proactive, with a commitment to positive, artist-first outcomes
