Description

Learn the art of casting with sculptor John Rainey, creating a two-part plaster mould and slip cast to produce a test piece.

You’ll explore the properties and uses of Plaster of Paris as a mould-making material for slip casting in ceramics. You’ll be introduced to processes including identifying suitability of forms, mould design, release agents, plaster mixing and slip casting.

Suitable for beginners or those with some experience looking to develop their skills.

John Rainey is a sculptor based in Belfast. He received his MA from the Royal College of Art, London and his BA from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has exhibited widely and was the recipient of numerous awards including the British School at Rome Fellowship in 2018 and the Rosemary James Memorial Trust Bursary in 2023. Rainey’s exhibition ‘Decoys and Ghosts’ at Golden Thread Gallery was on earlier in the year.
