Specific Criteria

The bursary is open to professional artists in all visual arts disciplines, born in, or resident in Northern Ireland. There is no age limit.

Applicants should show significant achievement in their chosen field by providing supporting evidence appropriate to their discipline. For example: they should have had at least one solo exhibition in a reputable gallery. Otherwise, the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of promise attested by references from established figures in the arts.

Applicants should state clearly what they wish to accomplish during their stay at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. This proposal outline should demonstrate that the artist is working towards a specific goal which will be helped by a stay at the centre.

Interested artists should submit a proposal detailing in less than 1000 words, a specific project for which they require the bursary and residency at Annaghmakerrig. Please also include an up-to-date CV and 5 images of recent work. Applications will be accepted by email or by post before midnight on the closing date.

Applicants who were successfully awarded a bursary to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre from the Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery in the previous awarding year (1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026) cannot apply for this financial year.

The successful applicant for this incoming year must use their award to visit the Tyrone Guthrie centre before the end of the financial year.

The successful applicant will be invited to give a short talk about their experience at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at the Friends of the Gallery’s AGM.

Applications go before a selection panel made up of representatives from the Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery Committee. Successful applicants will be notified by email usually within a few days of the decision. Applications should be sent to:
