The Breathing Wall marks the first solo exhibition by artist Daniel Godínez Nivón in the UK and north of Ireland. The exhibition is an invitation to dream with a place, and the many forms of life and memory it holds. Daniel’s practice investigates dreaming as a shared space for encountering other forms of life and sparking collective imagination. Bringing together ecological relationships and different forms of knowledge, his work explores the possibility of an ecosystem of dreams: a territory shared by humans, plants, stones and other beings.

A series of strange objects and works on paper conjure imagined places and lives. Combining found, made, and fabricated elements from shoreline wanderings and imaginative meanders; Stuart’s work reflects a deep relationship with landscape and material culture.

Stuart Cairns is an Irish artist exploring liminal environments—hinterlands, tidelines, and fringe spaces—through walking, photography, drawing, and collecting.

Stuart’s work is held in major public collections, including the Ulster Museum and National Museum of Ireland.

The Body Remembers is a solo exhibition exploring memory, trauma, and embodiment through porcelain clay and thread.

Drawing on personal experiences of brain surgery and mental health, it examines how the body retains experience. Combining fragile porcelain with thread, the work creates sculptural and immersive installations that invite reflection, empathy, and connection. Interconnected pieces explore resilience and healing, with thread linking forms as a living presence.

Bounce Arts Festival – Resident Artists and Exhibition – Tender Ruins

Throughout September, Suiss born artist, Susanne Horsch, will reside in the Atypical Gallery for her Bounce Residency.
Her exhibition, Tender Ruins, opens for Late Night Art on Thursday 1st October at 6:00 pm.
The Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.

“Tender Ruins” is a new immersive soft-sculpture installation that explores the tension between trust, care, and the shifting experience of maternal indispensability.

This project is funded by the Four Nations International Fund through Arts Council England, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Arts Council Wales, Creative Scotland and Wales Arts International.

Irish artist and poet Maria Noonan-McDermott brings her touring solo exhibition Time-lapse to Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.
Inspired by her mother, Maisie, who lived with Alzheimer’s, the exhibition explores time, memory, loss and enduring love. Paintings and original poetry are presented alongside personal archival items, including sketchbooks and clothing from Maisie’s fashion design studies at the Paris Academy in London around 1959. Since first touring in 2022, Time-lapse has grown from a deeply personal tribute into a shared reflection on identity, legacy and the enduring threads that connect us through time.

Currently NI and Ireland still have vast gender inequality across all aspects of society. At a time when the adult population in NI is a majority 52% female and 50.5% in Ireland. Inequality still reigns across all sectors of our community. This programme aims to support and promote female equality and diversity across race, religion, sexual orientations. Known for their emotion dexterity, by stripping away their differences, Lise has instead focused on the complex emotions that are felt by ALL females. With the aim of uniting us across NI.

Please note there is a £5 entrance fee into Belfast Cathedral.

La Roche House has collaborated with Belfast’s Lost Modernists to present a selection of work by the late Denis McBride. Denis is widely known for his decades of teaching at Belfast School of Art—but less well known is his remarkable and eclectic range of personal artwork. Experimental and investigative by nature, Denis’s work spans a wide range of styles. The influences of classical modernism from the early twentieth century (particularly artists such as Paul Klee, Henri Matisse and Georges Braques) are evident throughout much of the work.

This project is funded by the Four Nations International Fund through Arts Council England, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Arts Council Wales, Creative Scotland and Wales Arts International.

A history which includes an art gallery (The New Gallery, 1963–1969), a literary magazine Threshold (1957–1990), a dance centre, a drama school, Belfast’s first music academy, and of course, a theatre.

Belfast’s Trailblazing Visionary Returns: A New Chapter of  A House of Play Explores Alice Berger Hammerschlag’s Groundbreaking New Gallery
The Lyric Theatre is delighted to present  The Return: Alice Berger Hammerschlag and the New Gallery, a new exhibition within its major anniversary show, A House of Play. This latest chapter revisits the bold legacy of the Lyric’s New Gallery (1963-1969) and its singular Curator and Director, Alice Berger Hammerschlag (1917-1969), bringing renewed focus to a remarkable and often overlooked moment in Belfast’s cultural history.

This is a work-in-progress curation of Jenni’s Motherhood Places project work.

Previously described as a landscape painter, during the pre-school years she made art in bits and pieces as time allowed. Much of that was in-situ wherever she was paused with free hands, and eventually her sketchbooks no longer contained just landscapes, but the wider scope of places. Some domestic, featuring objects and ideas – these fragments chart the building of a childhood and in assembling the collection, ask questions about identity and heritage to be answered in future work.

Between Cloud and Ground marks a new body of work from ceramic artist Ciara Campbell-Crawford, introducing new forms that reach beyond the vessel into open space. Inspired by the vast, dramatic skies of Ireland, where light shifts in an instant and clouds gather with dramatic intensity, these pieces capture a landscape in constant motion.

At the heart of the work are birds in flight: fleeting, purposeful, free. Rendered in clay, they carry the weight of longing and the lightness of escape in equal measure. The Irish landscape below is felt rather than mapped, elemental, abstract, and intimately familiar.

Golden Thread Gallery presents NEW WORK, a major new exhibition by internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist John Carson.

Originally from Northern Ireland and now based in Pittsburgh, USA, Carson’s practice spans film, sound, installation and public art. Combining humour, research and personal narrative, his work explores themes of history, identity, place and belonging.

The exhibition brings together three new film projects that examine cultural connections between Ireland and the United States through Carson’s distinctive blend of storytelling, historical inquiry and wit.

Paul Seawright revisited and photographed the sites of Sectarian attacks during the 1970’s close to where the artist grew up in Belfast. The texts accompanying each photograph are from newspaper reports at the time and document the murders of innocent civilians, killed for their perceived religion. Reference to Protestant or Catholic background was removed from the text.
Seawright is best known for his alternative visual analysis of locations and subjects dominated by mainstream media. His photographs are devoid of obvious drama but loaded with implicit tension.

Sarah Lee-Byrne (aka Ayeen) will be showcasing a new body of work in the form of small scale etchings as well as screenprints at Seacourt Print Workshop, Co. Down, this Autumn. “Reflections” is as the name suggests, a reflection of life seen through exploring and discovering quiet moments in nature. Sarah’s small scale artwork invites you to take a closer look and appreciate the often seemingly small and overlooked moments.

An exhibition not to be missed, by one of our members and studio holders, Ayeen. A series of brand new intricate etchings, monotone screen prints and some old favourites too. Opening as part of Late Night Art Bangor on the 24th September from 6-9pm.
Sarah will also be talking about her work and leading a demo of her printing process on Friday 23rd Oct 5pm.
