Documenting Your Work

Simply put, documenting your work means putting in place certain records and back-up practices. These will help you safeguard the conceptual, visual, or physical integrity of your work.

If you document and archive your work, you can help:

* Ensure its correct display, even by others, to your specifications.

* Ensure that its integrity is maintained, to your intentions.

It is important that you make realistic choices; choices that will keep your work safe and easily accessible, and which will also be cost effective for you.

Artists often struggle to photograph their own work or spend scarce money paying someone else to do it for them. But with some basic guidelines and practice, artists are, for the majority of purposes well able to photograph their own paintings, drawings, etc with the digital compact or SLR camera that they already own.

We have a good article on our website about Documenting Your Work: https://visualartists.ie/vai-webinar-recordings/

There is also a very good webinar recording that gives instructions on how to photograph your own work: https://visualartists.ie/vai-webinar-recordings/

We also have some photographers listed in the Arts Directory if you did want to hire someone to take professional photos of your work: https://visualartists.ie/suppliers-service-providers/#!directory/map
