A new exhibition by Sharon Smith “This is Me” is a series of portraits created in collaboration with women of Ashford, Rathnew and Wicklow. Smith’s work explores the lived experience of womanhood responding to themes around motherhood, ageing and the invisibility of the ordinary woman. Her process encourages the subject to present themselves in an authentic and truthful way so that we may see something of their inner experience. In essence this work is about removing the masks we wear and allowing ourselves to be truly seen. Smith believes that it is in seeing others that we can be helped to accept and value our own self.
