Clare Arts Office in conjunction with Clare Museum is delighted to present “Kelp Meitheal – A Gathering of Seaweed and Shore People” an exhibition by a West Clare Coastal Community at Coosheen, Lat 52.716224 N / Long 9.616049 W.

This project is funded by Clare County Council’s Creative Ireland fund.

This exhibition’s ‘tideline’ reimagines the process and methods used to gather and harvest Seaweed feams/sea rods on the foreshore, the construction of a Kelp drying stand, a Kelp burning pit and the burning of the Kelp as it was done over one hundred years ago as a raw material towards the production of iodine.
