Katharine Lamb Commission Unveiled at Dun Laoghaire’s New Lexicon

As part of the preparations for the opening of dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown’s new Central Library and Cultural Centre, a new 5.5 metre high stained glass artwork by Dublin-born artist Katharine Lamb has just been installed.

Commissioned under the Per Cent for Art Scheme, this hand-crafted glass art is located on the return of a staircase at the Moran Park entrance to the LexIcon. The piece explores mapmaking, sea charts and floral taxonamy and is inspired by the geography and nature of Dún Laoghaire.

While Katharine Lamb’s artwork will be a permanent feature of the building, the first exhibition programme in the new Municipal Gallery housed in the LexIcon, Soundings will launch as the building opens in December and will run until January. Curated and selected by artist Michael McLoughlin in partnership with Dún Laoghaire RNLI lifeboat crew members, it features the work of six artists – Gary Coyle, Anthony Haughey, Emma Johnston, Sabina MacMahon, Julie Merriman, Lisa Reburn – the majority of whom have a connection to the County.
