VAI Lifelong Learning | New Event | Demystifying the role of the Curator

We are pleased to announce an upcoming online café event taking place on – Thursday 1st December at 11am

Demystifying the role of the Curator

Particularly suitable for emerging curators and artists but open to all, in this curator talk Kate Strain will draw from her own experiences and take a closer look into the role of the curator; research interests, how to connect, collaborate and programme through your work and your practice.

Kate Strain is a curator of contemporary art. From 2016–2021 she was artistic director of Grazer Kunstverein, Austria, where she curated large-scale collaborative projects, seasonal exhibitions, performances, productions and publications. In close collaboration with artist Fiona Hallinan, Strain is co-founder of the Department of Ultimology, a research body dedicated to the study of that which is dead or dying. Strain makes up one half of the paired curatorial practice RGKSKSRG. Recent projects include the guest-curated exhibition Oh My Demigod at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. Strain lives in Wicklow, Ireland, where she has recently established Kunstverein Aughrim, Ireland’s first art association based on the European model of the Kunstverein.

After the talk there will be a Q&A session where Kate will answer open questions from the online audience. This event is supported by Kilkenny County Council Arts office and is free for County Kilkenny based artists and at a member rate of €5 for VAI members.
